Confluentin is a natural product with antimicrobial activity. It is a polypore that has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to treat infectious diseases. Confluentin has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella enterica, and also inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Confluentin is a biomimetic compound that can be synthesized using an asymmetric synthesis method. The molecule contains both unsaturated alkyl and dinucleotide phosphate functional groups, which are found in nature but not synthetically accessible until recently. Confluentin's molecular weight is 678 g/mol and its melting point is 170°C.
