Product Information

Name:
3-Carbomethoxy-4-hydroxy-±-bromoacetophenone
Description:

Labetalol is a non-selective beta blocker with both α- and β-blocking properties. It is used to treat high blood pressure and labetalol blocks the stimulation of β-adrenergic receptors in vascular smooth muscle, which causes vasodilation. Labetalol also inhibits the action of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which produces prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are involved in the constriction and dilation of blood vessels. Thus labetalol has a vasodilatory effect on blood vessels, leading to a decrease in blood pressure. Labetalol also has an antiarrhythmic effect that may be due to its ability to block potassium channels in cardiac muscle cells.
