Description:
1,3-Dibenzyl-1H-benzo[D]imidazol-3-ium chloride is a chlorinating agent that reacts with terminal alkynes to produce a terminal alkyne and dimethyl sulfoxide. The reaction product is highly reactive and can be used as a catalyst for other reactions. 1,3-Dibenzyl-1H-benzo[D]imidazol-3-ium chloride has been shown to react with azoliums to produce an azolium salt and dimethyl sulfoxide. The yield of the reaction can be increased by adding chlorides or sulfoxide as substituents.
