1,3-Dimethyl 2-hydroxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylate is a synthetic compound that is used as a substrate for the enzyme beta-carboxyacyl synthase. The reaction of this compound with the enzyme produces an ester product and CO2. This reaction can be analyzed using mass spectrometry to determine the ratio of carboxylic acid to alcohol products. This ratio can then be evaluated against a marker or standard to determine the regiocontrol of this reaction. 1,3-Dimethyl 2-hydroxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylate has been found in leaves and has been shown to have conformational effects on macrocycles when evaluated with analytical methods.
