6-Chloro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole is a dihydrocarbazole that has shown some anti-inflammatory effects in an experimental model. It is a polymorphic compound with two different crystalline forms: the alpha form and the beta form. The alpha form was found to react with fluorescence and electron microscopy to produce a reaction product. It has been suggested that the beta form may be more active than the alpha form due to its higher solubility and greater affinity for binding to proteins. 6-Chloro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole may have potential as an antirheumatic drug if it can be optimized for oral use.
