Product Information
1-Methyl-3-nitro-1H-indole is an aromatic compound with the molecular formula C8H7N. It can be produced by nitrosation of 1-methylindole in the presence of nitrous acid or another strong electrophile, such as diphenyl or methyl iodide. Reaction with nitrous acid produces diphenylnitrosamine and methylated derivatives. The reaction proceeds via an electrophilic attack on the aromatic ring. Nitrous acid then reacts with a second molecule of the aromatic compound, leading to formation of a disulphide bond and the final product.
