2,4-Dioxo-4-thiophen-2-yl-butyric acid ethyl ester is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of triazole and oxadiazole. It has been shown to have an antimicrobial effect on colon carcinoma cells in vitro. This compound has not yet been tested against any microbial strains in vivo. 2,4-Dioxo-4-thiophen-2-yl-butyric acid ethyl ester is synthesized by the reaction of potassium terephthalate with ethyl 2-(3,5,6,-trifluorobenzoyl)benzoate in refluxing ethanol. The molecular weight was found to be 256.07 grams per mole.
