Description:

Teicoplanin A2 is a biological agent that is a derivative of the antibiotic teicoplanin. It has antimicrobial properties and can be used to treat bowel disease, skin infections, and other microbial infections. Teicoplanin A2 is structurally similar to natural compounds such as the polyenes (e.g., amphotericin B). Teicoplanin A2 binds to cell membranes by intercalating with the lipid bilayer and preventing the passage of ions through the membrane. This prevents bacterial growth by interfering with metabolism at the cellular level. Teicoplanin A2 has also been shown to have toxic effects on epidermal cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in these cells.
