Product Information
2-Allylbenzonitrile is a ligand that binds to zinc and other metal ions. It has been used as a control agent against various pests, such as termites and ants. 2-Allylbenzonitrile has antimicrobial properties which are due to its ability to produce hydrogen peroxide at the site of infection and inhibit microbial growth by interfering with cell metabolism. 2-Allylbenzonitrile also inhibits the growth of fungi by blocking the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This chemical can be synthesized from styrene and benzene through a cross-coupling reaction with chlorine or fluorine compounds.
