1-Dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (1DMIMB) is a cationic surfactant that is used in the treatment of pulmonary diseases. It consists of a hydrophobic, long alkyl chain and a hydrophilic head group. The hydrophobic end interacts with water molecules, while the hydrophilic end interacts with the cell membrane. 1DMIMB has been shown to be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and has been found to be more effective than other cationic surfactants at low concentrations. This drug also shows hemolytic activity and fluorescence probe properties.
