Product Information
7-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine is a bicyclic compound that is synthesized through the condensation of two alcohols and an amidine. It can be used to produce the drug amifostine, which is used to prevent damage to healthy tissues caused by exposure to radiation therapy or chemotherapy. The synthesis of 7-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine was first reported in 1891 by German chemist Emil Fischer. The reaction starts with the refluxing of ethanol and ethoxymethyleneacetoacetate in a solution of carbethoxy. The first step in the process involves the addition of an acid to form an ester called ethyl 3-hydroxypropanoate. This product then reacts with ammonia gas and ethanol to create ethyl 2-aminoethanol. This product then reacts with another molecule of ethanol and carbethoxy to create 7-methylpyrazolo[1,
