Product Information
9H-Carbazol-1-ol is a biologically active carbonyl compound that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects. It has been shown to inhibit the release of epidermal growth factor and to increase the production of nerve growth factor in cultured neurons. 9H-Carbazol-1-ol also has an effect on fatty acid synthesis and can protect against hydrogen peroxide induced oxidative stress. 9H-Carbazol-1-ol has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of organometallic Pd(II) complexes, such as palladium hydroxide, with selectivity for l1210 murine leukemia cells over normal mouse cells. These activities are due primarily to the presence of the hydroxyl group, which is capable of forming hydrogen bonds with metal ions, and the carboxylic acid group, which is able to form hydrogen bonds with phosphate groups. The presence of an α-tocopherol moiety may also
