It is mediated by chloride and optical irradiation with uv light. 3,9-Dodecadiyne reacts with copper chloride to give an alkylating agent and bond cleavage. It also fluoresces in the presence of magnetic fields. Rhizomes may contain 3,9-dodecadiyne.
