Synonyms:
  • 1-O-Propylglycerol
  • 3-Propoxy-1,2-propanediol
  • Nsc 167418
Description:

3-Propoxypropane-1,2-diol is a surfactant that is an acidic, evaporative liquid with a boiling point of around 100°C. It has been used in the production of ethylene oxide and solubilized reaction solution. It can also be used as an emulsifier to produce stable emulsions. 3-Propoxypropane-1,2-diol has been shown to have a viscosity of 0.4 Pa·s at 25°C and a sedimentation coefficient of 1.5 × 10−3 s−1 at 20°C. 3-Propoxypropane-1,2-diol also has a hydroxyl group that provides it with anti-corrosive properties and silicone resistance. The carbonyl group makes this compound structurally rigid and resistant to hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases.
