Product Information
5-{[2-(6-Amino-9H-purin-9-yl)ethyl]amino}-1-pentanol (5AP) is a potent antiviral drug that inhibits the replication of herpesviruses and is used to treat labialis, herpes labialis, and other similar infections. It has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of viral DNA by binding to the viral DNA polymerase and blocking the enzyme's ability to synthesize DNA. 5AP also has an antiinflammatory effect on infected tissue, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
