Otenabant is a CB2 receptor antagonist that has potent binding affinity for these receptors. It is used in the treatment of metabolic disorders, including obesity and type II diabetes. Otenabant has been shown to be an effective drug for the treatment of these diseases. It is also used as a pharmacological agent for clinical studies on other medical conditions, such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Otenabant binds to the CB2 receptor with high affinity and blocks its activation by endogenous or exogenous cannabinoids, thereby inhibiting the effects of cannabinoids at CB1 receptors. The drug has been shown to inhibit proliferation of carcinoma cell lines both in vitro and in vivo.
