2,5-Diiodo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole is an intermediate in the synthesis of compounds such as 2,5-diiodo-3,4,6-trimethoxybenzaldehyde and 2,5-diiodo-3,4,6-trimethoxyphenol. It is a reactive intermediate that has been shown to undergo arylation with electron rich aromatic compounds. This compound has also been used as a crosslinking agent for polymers.
2,5-Diiodo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole is used as an efficient method for the production of heterocycles and oxidative reactions with oxygen species. The high reactivity of this compound makes it useful for the preparation of other heterocycles or reactive intermediates.
