1H-Indene-5-carboxylic acid, 2,3-dihydro-, methyl ester is a glutamate receptor antagonist. It blocks the binding of glutamate to its receptors and prevents activation of the receptor. The compound has been shown to be an effective antagonist at metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) with a Ki value of 0.7 μM. 1H-Indene-5-carboxylic acid, 2,3-dihydro-, methyl ester has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the synthesis and release of glutamate in neuronal tissue preparations and has also been shown to inhibit ionotropic glutamate receptors (iGluRs) with a Ki value of 3.2 μM.
