L-Threonine benzyl ester hemioxalate is a glycopeptide that has been shown to have an affinity for the threonine receptor. The pharmacophore of this molecule is based on the rationalized model, which takes into account steric interactions and hydrogen bonding. L-Threonine benzyl ester hemioxalate has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex by binding to the glycopeptide receptors in the bacterial cell wall and inhibiting protein synthesis. As a result, L-Threonine benzyl ester hemioxalate prevents the formation of peptidoglycan, which is essential for cell division. This drug has also been found to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates.
