Description:

Tert-butyl 4-ethynylbenzoate (B4EB) is a sensitizer that has been shown to be effective in the production of hydrogen gas. It can be used as a photocatalyst in solar cells. B4EB is an electron acceptor that has been shown to enhance the efficiency of hydrogen production from water by absorbing light and transferring electrons to the water. The mechanism of its action is thought to involve hydrogen bonding interactions between the porphyrin and tio2 nanoparticles, which are mediated by directional molecular interactions. This process creates a supramolecular complex with covalent immobilization of the porphyrin on tio2 nanoparticles, leading to enhanced surface area and increased absorption of light energy.
