Isoastragaloside IV is a saponin that can be isolated from the roots of Astragalus membranaceus. It has been shown to have immunomodulatory effects in several animal models and has been found to have anti-cancer activity in vitro. Isoastragaloside IV has also been shown to have therapeutic effects in mice with ischemia/reperfusion injury and acute ischemic stroke. Isoastragaloside IV is an organic acid that can be extracted from other plants such as Astragalus membranaceus, but it does not exist in its pure form in nature.
