2-Fluoro-5-nitrobenzamide is a drug that has significant activity against trypanosomiasis. It is selective for mammalian cells, with a potency of 0.01 μM in human and mouse cells, while it is inhibitory to the parasite Trypanosoma brucei at concentrations of 10 μM. 2-Fluoro-5-nitrobenzamide was discovered to have potent antiparasitic effects by inhibiting the growth of T. brucei in cell culture at micromolar concentrations. It also has significant activity against the parasite Leishmania major.
