Description:
N-Acetyl-S-benzyl-D-cysteine is a metabolite of benzene in urine. It is used as an analytical marker for the presence of benzene, and can be detected using spectrometric methods. N-Acetyl-S-benzyl-D-cysteine is formed by the oxidation of S-phenylmercapturic acid catalyzed by cytochrome P450 enzymes. The concentration of this metabolite in urine is linearly related to the amount of exposure to benzene.
