Ethyl 6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylate is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H7ClN3O2. It is a colorless solid that is soluble in organic solvents and reacts with copper to form a blue copper(II) ethyl 6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylate complex. This compound has been used as a reagent for analytical purposes, e.g., for the detection of carboxylic acid derivatives by coupling with diazomethane or for the separation of regioisomers of pyrazines using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Ethyl 6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylate can be synthesized from ethyl chloroacetate and pyrazine.
