Product Information
2-(Ethoxymethylidene)-3-oxobutanenitrile (EMC) is a programmed, activated, and caspase-trifunctional synthetic compound. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in leukemia cells by inhibiting the mitochondrial membrane potential and activating reactive oxygen species. EMC also induces death in tumour cells by inducing the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria into the cytosol, which activates caspases. EMC binds to 2-nitrobenzaldehyde (2-NBA) to form a stable complex that inhibits the enzyme nitroreductase, which is involved in carcinogenesis. The binding of 2-NBA also prevents the formation of reactive intermediates that would otherwise undergo spontaneous reactions and cause cell damage.
