The compound has been shown to be effective against gram-negative bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli. 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid also has antibiotic activity against gram negative bacteria and the ability to reduce the surface tension of water. 5,6,7,8 Tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-5 carboxylic acid is also used as a surfactant for the preparation of particles for use in pharmaceuticals or other chemical applications.
