RO 28-2653 is a membrane channel blocker that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vivo. RO 28-2653 binds to integrin receptors and prevents epidermal growth factor from binding, which leads to decreased proliferation and increased apoptosis of cells. RO 28-2653 also inhibits protease activity and acid formation in cells, which leads to inhibition of proinflammatory mediators and pain. RO 28-2653 has been shown to reduce inflammatory bowel disease by reducing the number of inflammatory cells in the colon, decreasing enzyme activity, and reducing bowel disease severity.
