Description:

2-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl-methyl-amino)-5-methoxy-benzoic acid (2BAMBA) is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to have antiinflammatory activity and inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It has also been shown to inhibit methionine aminopeptidase, an enzyme that degrades proteins, which may be due to its nitrogen atoms and zwitterion properties. 2BAMBA is synthesized by reacting 5-methoxy-2-(2′-carboxyethyl)-benzoic acid with tert-butyl methyl amine in aqueous base.
