Tert-butyl N-[1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxypropyl]carbamate is an industrial preparation that is a molecule containing galactose. It is used in the synthesis of phosphazene, which contains a number of intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Galactose residues are found in the uptake process, which involves bacterial strains that have been genetically modified to express calmodulin binding domains. The uptake process also requires a cytochrome P450 enzyme and an asialoglycoprotein receptor. Chemoenzymatic reactions are required for the trimethylation of tert-butyl N-[1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxypropyl]carbamate to make it more soluble in water.
