Red-CLA is a probe that can be used for the analysis of oxidase systems. It is a chemiluminescent probe that reacts with oxygen species and produces light. The intensity of the light is proportional to the concentration of oxygen species present in the sample. For this reason, Red-CLA can be used for calibration purposes, as well as to quantitatively measure reactive oxygen species in samples. A typical experiment would involve using a chemiluminescence method on phytoplankton samples in order to quantify reactive oxygen species in the sample. This reaction occurs by combining Red-CLA with xanthine and xanthine oxidase system.
