5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzaldehyde is an activated form of the growth factor, TGFβ. It can be used as a marker protein to identify cells undergoing activation. 5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-4methylbenzaldehyde is a signal transduction molecule that activates inflammatory responses and collagen synthesis in vitro. It has been shown to regulate the transcriptional regulation of proinflammatory factors and cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα). This chemical also induces cardiac hypertrophy in rats, which may be due to its ability to induce proinflammatory cytokines.
