3-Nitrodibenzo[b,f]oxepin-1-amine is an antibacterial agent that targets the aldehyde group of bacterial DNA. It binds to the receptor site on the bacterial cell wall, preventing bacterial growth and inhibiting protein synthesis. 3-Nitrodibenzo[b,f]oxepin-1-amine has been shown to be effective against strains of Staphylococcus aureus. The isomeric form of this drug is more cytotoxic than the racemic form. 3-Nitrodibenzo[b,f]oxepin-1-amine inhibits DNA synthesis by binding to the DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacteria cells.
