3-Hydroxy-4-sulfobenzoic acid potassium salt (3HSAKP) is a low molecular weight acid binding agent that is used as a transfer catalyst in organic synthesis. 3HSAKP is an equimolar, phase transfer catalyst that reacts with an alkali metal chloride to form an intermediate that can be methylated or sulfonylated to produce the desired product. 3HSAKP has been shown to react with ammonium ions at low temperature and does not react with chlorine.
