2'-C-Methylguanosine monophosphate is an analog of guanosine that has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses in vitro. It binds to the cavity present in the viral polymerase in such a way that it blocks the binding of guanosine triphosphate, which is necessary for viral replication. This drug has been shown to be toxic to cells in culture and also inhibits cellular RNA synthesis. 2'-C-Methylguanosine monophosphate has also been shown to bind to replicons as well as RNA and DNA.
