Dodecylsulfanylthiocarbonyl-2-methylpropanoic acid is a copolymer that consists of a polystyrene chain and a polyhydroxylated dodecylsulfanylthiocarbonyl chain. The copolymer has been shown to have biocompatible properties, which make it suitable for use in the treatment of tumors. Hydrogen bonding interactions between the two chains are responsible for the reversible nature of the polymerization process, as well as its ability to be reversed by adding sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid. Dodecylsulfanylthiocarbonyl-2-methylpropanoic acid has also been shown to be an effective biodegradable polymer for use in drug delivery systems. This polymer can be synthesized by reacting a monomer with a thiol group and an alkyl halide acid chloride.
