Dehydroivabradine is a prodrug of ivabradine, which is an anti-anginal agent. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic heart failure and angina pectoris. Dehydroivabradine is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes to ivabradine, which inhibits the late sodium current (I Na ) in cardiac myocytes. This leads to a decrease in heart rate and conduction velocity and an increase in diastolic duration, which reduces myocardial oxygen demand.
