(E)-N-(2-Amino-4-fluorophenyl)-3-(1-cinnamyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)acrylamide is a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor which has been shown to be effective in the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa and other neurodegenerative diseases. In cell culture studies, this drug was shown to increase the acetylation of histones and DNA methylation, leading to an increased expression of genes such as neurogenin 2. This agent also induces apoptotic signaling in ganglion cells, leading to the death of these cells. The symptoms associated with this drug are related to its inhibition of HDAC activity, which leads to oxidative stress and inflammation.
