It is used in the synthesis of complex carbohydrates. 2A3BPGA is a monosaccharide with a glycosylation pattern of alpha 1,2. The methylation of the hydroxyl groups on the glucose rings leads to the formation of 2A3BPGAM. This modification has been shown to alter the solubility and reactivity of this sugar.
