Product Information

Name:
N-Acetylneuraminic acid sodium salt
Description:

N-Acetylneuraminic acid sodium salt is a monosaccharide with the chemical formula C 9 H 17 NO 5 Na. It is one of the building blocks of sialic acid, which is found on the surface of many animal cells and functions as an important recognition molecule in immune responses. N-Acetylneuraminic acid sodium salt has been shown to be involved in cellular transformation and atp-dependent transport. It is also an intermediate in enzymatic reactions that produce other sugars, such as glucose, fructose, and galactose. In vitro assays have demonstrated that N-Acetylneuraminic acid sodium salt can inhibit enzyme activities when it binds to enzymes. Experimental models have also suggested that this compound may be effective against some types of cancer cells. The iupac name for this compound is neu5ac (N-acetylneuraminic acid).
