It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in rat models of inflammatory bowel disease and metabolic disorders. 1,5-Anhydro-D-glucitol 6-dihydrogenphosphate inhibits the activity of bacterial enzymes that catalyze protein glycosylation. It also blocks the production of inflammatory cytokines and colony stimulating factors. The enzyme inhibition may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of D-glucose from D-galactose by blocking the enzyme DALR (deleted in liver cancer).
