Silver(I) telluride is a low-temperature material that has a phase transition temperature of about -50°C. It has high resistance to thermal expansion and can be used as an optical sensor for the detection of methanol in organic solutions. The silver ions are activated by light and emit fluorescence, which can be detected by a photodetector. The transport properties of silver(I) telluride have been studied extensively because of its potential use in semiconductors. Silver(I) telluride has also been used in optical studies to detect structural changes in polymers and other materials.
