Description

Barium zirconate (BaZrO3) is a ferroelectric material. It has a high resistance to heat and chemicals, and can be used in the production of conductive ceramics. It also has a synergic effect with sodium carbonate, which increases its chemical stability. BaZrO3 can be synthesized by heating barium oxide and zirconium oxide together at temperatures over 1400 degrees Celsius. This material is stable in water vapor and air, but decomposes at high temperatures. BaZrO3 has transport properties that are dependent on the particle size, which can be controlled by milling or grinding. BaZrO3 also exhibits electrochemical impedance spectroscopy behavior that is characteristic of proton conduction in an ionic solution.
