Terbium oxide is a rare earth element that has the atomic number of 65, and is a member of the lanthanide series. This metal oxide can be found in two crystalline forms: terbium(III) oxide (TBO) and terbium(IV) oxide (TBO4). Terbium oxide is used in various industrial applications, such as frequency conversion, hydrogen peroxide production, and photocatalysis. It has been shown to have potential for use in environmental remediation, optical devices, and as an additive to glass. Terbium oxide can be used to produce nitrates from nitrogen oxides by thermally decomposing them at high temperatures. The metal also has vibrational properties that allow it to absorb infrared radiation and emit visible light. Terbium oxide also has a strong thermally induced photo-catalytic activity with nitrate as a substrate. The diffraction patterns obtained from this material show distinctive peaks at 2θ=1.
