Ruthenium(IV) sulfide is a compound that can be used to treat infectious diseases. The redox potential for this compound can be determined by measuring the molybdenum oxidation potential in a model system. This material can also be synthesized using hydrochloric acid as a reagent and particle size reduction techniques. Ruthenium(IV) sulfide has been used as a diagnostic agent for various infections due to its detection capabilities in urine samples. Anhydrous sodium carbonate is required for the synthesis process because it reacts with sulfur dioxide gas to form sodium sulfite
