Ammonium biborate is a chemical compound that contains both an ammonium group and a boron nitride group. It has been used as an analytical reagent to determine the presence of metal ions in solution. Ammonium biborate has also been shown to be useful as a buffer for pH measurements, in pharmaceutical preparations, and as a dehydrating agent. The most common impurities are inorganic acids such as phosphoric acid, which can be removed by washing with water or dilute sulfuric acid. The hydroxyl group is responsible for the optical properties of ammonium biborate.
