Bis(2-carboxyethylgermanium(IV) sesquioxide), also known as Ge-132, is a compound that is metabolized by the body to produce germanium. It has been shown to be effective against a range of human diseases and conditions, including atherosclerotic lesions and bowel disorders. Bis(2-carboxyethylgermanium(IV) sesquioxide) has been shown to have antioxidative properties and can inhibit lipid peroxidation, which may be beneficial for patients with atherosclerosis. This compound also has chemoattractant protein activity, which may be useful in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. The mechanism of action of Bis(2-carboxyethylgermanium(IV) sesquioxide) is not yet clear but it is thought that it might act as a pharmacological agent.
