Description:

3-Methyl-2(3H)-thiazolylidene-4-hydroxy-2H-1,2-benzothiazine 1,1-dioxide is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug that inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). It is administered orally and is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The drug has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and inflammation in patients with osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. 3-Methyl-2(3H)-thiazolylidene-4hydroxy-2H-1,2benzothiazine 1,1dioxide also has been shown to reduce exacerbations of ulcerative colitis in patients who have had a colonoscopy and are at high risk for developing ulcers.
