2-Amino-4H,5H-naphtho[2,1-b]thiophene-1-carbonitrile is a dihydronaphthalene compound that has been shown to be active against influenza viruses. It inhibits the virus by binding to the pyrimidine ring of the virus's RNA polymerase. This inhibits viral replication and reduces plaque formation. 2-Amino-4H,5H-naphtho[2,1-b]thiophene-1-carbonitrile has antiviral activity against influenza A and is effective in inhibiting h5n1 virus replication.
