Creatinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of creatine to creatinine, which is a waste product in the body. Creatinase activity in urine samples can be measured using enzymatic reactions and structural analysis. Creatinase from Pseudomonas sp. was found to have a pH optimum of 8.3 and a carbon source dependency, with higher levels of creatinine production occurring when glucose or sucrose was used as a carbon source. The enzyme's sensitivity to silver ions allows for its detection by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), which measures changes in electrical impedance during the course of an enzymatic reaction.
