Acebutolol is a beta-blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure, heart disease, and other cardiac conditions. It has been shown to have a low toxicity in laboratory animals. Acebutolol is metabolized by the liver and excreted through the kidneys. The major metabolites are propranolol, which accounts for more than 50% of the dose, and acebutolol-d7, which accounts for less than 10%. Acebutolol-d7 has low affinity for beta-adrenergic receptors and does not bind to potassium channels as well as propranolol.
